Sayed engraves every Rumi Cuff by hand inside his small workshop in Kuche Murgha Kabul. It is interesting to see how the rhythmic sound of hummer on the nail engraves the rhythmic words of Rumi and Omar Khayam on to the silver base.
His handwriting is not the best, but it has a raw feel that complements the overall simple design of this cuff.
Engraving art has once been a popular craft in Afghanistan. It has not only been used for jewellery making, but also for household items like spoons, mugs, water jugs and trays.
